Sarson Ka Saag


Simply follow the steps to make the favorite and delicious sarson ka saag at home and enjoy it with makke ki roti..!!

Ingredients

  • Mustard leaves (sarson ka saag)   1 bunch 
  • Spinach (palak)                            1 bunch
  • Onion , grated                              1 large
  • Tomato (Paste)                             2 large
  • Grated ginger (adrak)                   1/2 tsp
  • Chopped garlic (lehsun)                1/2 tsp
  • Green chillies (chopped)               3
  • Grated Cheese(optional)              1 tbsp
  • Lemon juice(optional)                   1/2 tbsp
  • Hing (asafoetida)                          a pinch
  • Salt                                              to taste
  • Water                                          1 cup
  • Ghee                                            2 tbsp
  • Oil                                               1 tbsp
  • Garam masala                              1/2 tsp
Method


Clean Spinach and mustard leaves properly and wash them twice with water. Place the leaves in a strainer so that all water is removed from the leaves. Cut the leaves into thick pieces and put them in the cooker, also pour 1 small bowl of water and boil. After 2 whistle goes off, turn off the gas and let all of the pressure escape from the cooker.

Make a fine paste paste of tomatoes, green chillies and ginger. Keep it aside.

Now, Pour oil in a frying pan(kadhai) and heat, put Heeng, turmeric powder and stir. Then put chopped onion, garlic, stir it for few min., Now put the tomato paste followed by other spices. Stir and mix it properly, till oil separates from them.

Take out the Spinach and mustard leaves from the cooker, cool them off and grind in a mixer to make a fine paste. Put the paste with 1 cup of water and salt in the above paste, mix properly by stirring with a spoon. After curry comes to boil cook it on a low flame, till the oil separates.

Add lemon juice if you want...else garnish it with grated cheese and serve it hot..
