Sambhar Masala

Instead of using a bought masala to make your sambhar, make it on your own. It will definitely taste better and fresher.

Ingredients
  • Coriander seeds                 8 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds                         11/2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds                         11/2 tbsp
  • Whole wheat kernels          2 tbsp
  • Split Bengal gram (chana dal) 2 tbsp
  • Whole dry red chilli                 16-20
  • Turmeric powder                 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds (methi dana) 1/2 tsp
  • Black peppercorns                 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida                         a pinch

Method:

Dry roast all ingredients one at a time except asafoetida powder. Cool, add asafoetida powder and grind to a fine powder. Store in an airtight container.
